What Is BMI?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement that uses your height and weight to estimate your weight category. It is commonly used as a general screening tool to help identify whether someone may be underweight, at a healthy weight, overweight, or obese.

BMI does not measure body fat directly and does not account for factors like muscle mass, body composition, or overall fitness

Body Fat Percentage vs BMI

BMI and body fat percentage measure different things.

BMI uses your height and weight to estimate your weight category, but it does not show how much of your weight comes from fat or muscle.

Body fat percentage measures the amount of your body weight that is fat, giving a better picture of your body composition.

A person can have a high BMI due to muscle mass while having a healthy body fat percentage. That’s why using both measurements can provide a better understanding of your fitness progress.

Disclaimer: Body fat calculations are estimates and may not be 100% accurate. Results can vary based on muscle mass, hydration, and measurement accuracy.
